Reigning Olympic gold medalist and all around volleyball king, Phil Dalhausser has won USA Volleyball’s Male Beach Athlete of the Year distinction for his outstanding 2011 season. Dalhausser and partner Todd Rogers finished the year as the top-ranked team overall in the FIVB Olympic Qualification Rankings, which will be the deciding factor in which two men’s teams head to London for the 2012 Olympic Games.
Dalhausser and Rogers were on the August cover of VBM and spoke to us about what their run was like and how they were preparing for the next Olympics. Dalhausser made it clear that they were definitely looking to repeat gold.
“Since I’ve been playing on the FIVB tour this is the deepest it’s ever been,” Dalhausser said over the summer. “There are so many good teams out there, you rarely get an easy match. And teams are always playing their best ball to try to beat us, so we’re always in battles on the court.”
The pair also finished as the top-ranked players in the USAV Beach Player Rankings and second overall in the FIVB World Tour Rankings. In all four FIVB tournaments the pair won, Dalhausser was awarded with Most Outstanding Player accolades.
