No. 2 UC Irvine defeated No. 3 UCLA 3-1 (23-25, 25-21, 35-33, 25-18) to win the 48th Annual UCSB/Asics Collegiate Invitational held at Robertson Gym on the UC Santa Barbara campus Jan. 6-7. The field of eight was rounded out by reigning NCAA champs Ohio State, Cal State Northridge, UCLA, Long Beach State, and BYU.
