Team USA represents in both gold medal matches today

Brazil versus USA, a classic volleyball rivalry. Yes, today at 12:30 p.m. PT, Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross will take on Agatha Bednarczuk and Barbara Seixas De Freitas of Brazil in hopes of winning gold, and $70,000, at the World Series of Beach Volleyball. The match will air live on NBC.

American fans will also gather in the stadium in Long Beach and in front of their televisions to watch Phil Dalhausser and Sean Rosenthal battle the Polish duo of Grzegorz Fijalek and Mariusz Prudel for gold at 2:30 p.m. PT. The Poles sent Theo Brunner and Todd Rogers to the bronze medal match yesterday. Brunner and Rogers will play for the final spot on the podium today at 11 p.m. PT.

Both Walsh Jennings and Ross and Dalhausser and Rosenthal breezed through their semifinal matches, with Walsh Jennings and Ross defeating the Slovakian duo of Natalia Dubovcova and Dominika Nestarcova 21-14, 21-16 and Dalhausser and Rosenthal dismissing the young German duo of Alexander Walkenhorst and Stefan Windscheif 21-13, 21-12. Dalhausser even collected four aces in a row, taking the score from 16-12 to match point in the second game.

The men’s and women’s six-man tournaments also played out yesterday with Holly McPeak’s Team Flash taking first in the women’s and Team Cliffhangers taking the men’s final.
