We live in an international world. You can watch news from around the globe on TV, see what's trending on Twitter in other countries, and check out the top songs on Australian radio. If you live in a major U.S. city, you most likely have classmates, neighbors, and/or coworkers who are from another country. In such a small world, it's no surprise that American top-10 lists are sometimes littered with acts that originated overseas. Sam Smith, a British singer-songwriter, is dominating the charts with his single "Stay With Me," Norwegian singing-songwriting duo Nico & Vinz's "Am I Wrong" is popping up all over the music industry's top-10 charts, and every popular DJ/producer seems to hail from Sweden these days.
Such diversity in where popular music comes from will help broaden the horizons of our musical tastes. To delve deeper into the international music scene, investigate what musical influences your favorite foreign artists had growing up. Check out their sections on Pandora, Spotify, or Beats Music, or look at what other people who bought their music on iTunes also purchased. This will expand your musical knowledge faster than listening to the radio or taking friends' recommendations.
Here's a playlist of top international songs to get you started on your new musical journey.
