A Puerto Vallarta Paradise

The week after Thanksgiving, 80+ beach volleyball enthusiasts joined SOB Volleyball Vacations and pro players Angie Akers, Aaron Wachtfogel, Brent Doble, Saralyn Smith and Beth VanFleet for eight days of clinics and competition on the warm sands of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The 25th Volleyball Vacation marked the second volley extravaganza at the luxurious Palace Resort in Puerto Vallarta for the SOB group.

SOB had 11 beach courts set up for the three tournaments, various pick-up play and the pro-run clinics. After sweating it out on the courts each day, players were pampered at the 5-star all-inclusive resort, enjoying happy hour palomas (tequila and grapefruit juice); sushi, Italian and Mexican meals for dinner; and full spa services on the premises.

Men’s King winner Tom Kohler summed up the week on his blog: “While away in Puerto Vallarta, I had the privilege of meeting some of the coolest, most genuine people who share the same desire to play ball 24/7 as I do. From digging out chairs in the sand at night and listening to live music, parasailing, having the opportunity to play volleyball all day, ziplining through the jungle, bargaining with Mexican vendors, all while having access to an ALL-INCLUSIVE 5-star resort.”

The weeklong trip ended with an awards ceremony recognizing the tournament winners and MVP’s, who were selected for their positive attitude and sportsmanship exhibited on and off the courts. 2010 winners included Shay Martin (CA), Laure Jimenez (IL), Alton Krenzelok (WY), Jill Krenzelok (WY), Matt Chope (MI) and Ricky Sucgang (TX).
