Brent Rasmussen went to the University of Nebraska-Omaha and played baseball for all four years, becoming a free agent with the Omaha Royals after graduating in 2001. In February of 2002 he was driving between Omaha and Lincoln and pulled over to help a car that had slid off the road. While helping, he was struck by another vehicle and lost his left foot, his right ankle was shattered and he ended up with a 16" rod in his right leg. He joined the U.S. Men's Sitting Volleyball Team the following year and in 2004 he helped the U.S. men place sixth at the Paralympic Games in Athens, Greece. In 2010 he participated in the U.S. Men's 10th place finish at the Sitting World Championships.
