Coakley, Jackson, Fernandez, Perez top 2024 VolleyballMag Girls Beach Volleyball Fab 50

Kennedy Coakley

As usual, there is no shortage of star power on the 2024 VolleyballMag Girls Beach Fab 50 list.

The Girls Beach Fab 50 recognizes the nation’s top high school (Class of 2024) seniors, voted on by an esteemed panel of NCAA Division I beach and prominent youth beach coaches. VolleyballMag.com has no vote/input into the list other than initiating the voting process and assembling the final list.

The main talking point with the Class of 2024 is college beach programs throughout the country will improve for years to come via this long list of star-studded athletes.

A total of 21 college programs are represented on the list with Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo (under the guidance of 2008 Olympic gold-medalist Todd Rogers), Cal Berkeley, Florida State, USC and Stanford leading the way.

In the not shocking category, the state of California is tops with nearly half the picks residing in the Golden State (26 to be exact; this year’s list has 55 players on it with a 6-way tie for the final spot factored in), followed by Texas (10) and Florida (6), a distant second and third, respectively. Eleven states are represented on the Girls Beach Fab 50 list.

Southern California-based programs Elite Beach, MBsand, Spiker and Wave are prominent throughout the list, while Chico (California) Racquet Club’s JJ Mitchell is stoked that his Beach Volleyball Academy received its first-ever Fab 50 pick with Utah-bound Quincy Stephens.

Speaking of individual players, Florida native Kennedy Coakley (USC signee) was voted the Class of 2024’s top recruit. Stanford-bound Avery Jackson (MADSAND club in Texas) was No. 2, followed by fellow Texan Alexa Fernandez (UCLA) and North Carolina native Sally Perez (UCLA) tying for the third spot. Future Bruins teammate Adelina Okazaki (Wave in San Diego) was fifth and Cal signee Carly Hixson (also from the Wave club) was sixth. UCLA has three of the top six players Fab 50 selections hitting Westwood in the fall.

Coakley, who one panelist succinctly noted “can flat-out play,” Fernandez and Perez are part of the USA Volleyball Beach U21 national team roster.

This year, we decided to not limit the VolleyballMag.com Girls Beach Underclassmen to Watch List to a specific number, thus giving more exposure to more non-senior players throughout the country (this year’s list has 78 entries).

Top vote-getters on the Underclassmen to Watch List include Class of 2025s Savannah Thomas (Texas commit), Stanford commit Ivanna Rivera Vargas, as well as Spiker beach players Kyra Zaengle (USC commit) and Elena Fisher (Stanford commit). MBsand player Mallory LaBreche (UCLA commit) also drew high marks when it comes to the current junior class.

The voting panel also was high on a number of 2026 players (current sophomores), including Allyn Brewer (MADSAND in Texas), Emma Champagne (MBsand), Audrey Flanagan (Elite Beach), Sara Moynihan (MBsand), Olga Nikolaeva (Elite Beach), Simone Roslon (MBsand), Jordyn Scribner (MADSAND) and Pennsylvania native Sarah Wood. Current freshman Janie McCanna (Spiker) also is on plenty of radars. Wood is part of the USA Volleyball Beach U19 national team.

During the fact-checking process, particularly with the Underclassmen to Watch List, we did our absolute best to gather as much current/accurate data on each player from either the voting panel, their beach coaches or high school/club indoor coaches or through web/social media searches. If you notice a height, current beach club out of whack or a recent college commitment missing, contact Mike Miazga at mike@volleyballmag.com.

We’ll be back in the late summer to look at the top women’s college beach recruiting classes that will factor in portal transfers and international players, in addition to these incoming freshmen players as teams gear up for the 2025 NCAA women’s beach season.
