New partnerships and one particularly high-profile return to competition will headline the AVP Seattle Open this weekend.
Phil Dalhausser and Sean Rosenthal ended their partnership in advance of the tournament, after injuries and disappointing results riddled the start of their 2015 season. Dalhausser will play with former partner and fellow Floridian Nick Lucena, while Rosenthal picked up Lucena’s partner for the first half of the season Theo Brunner.
On the women’s side, Misty May-Treanor will play in her first pro tournament since the London Olympics. She will partner with fellow Long Beach State alum Brittany Hochevar. An AVP spokesperson made clear that this return doesnt mean May-Treanor is aiming for a comeback. Hochevar and May-Treanor just barely made the main draw, coming in as the 12th seed.
Helping a friend out this weekend and visiting family. Hitting 2 bird with 1 stone as they say, May-Treanor wrote on Twitter.
In other women’s tour news, Lane Carico and Summer Ross will play in their first AVP event as partners. Both players have been conspicuously absent from AVP competition so far this year. They debuted their partnership at the Yokohama Grand Slam in Japan two weeks ago where they finished ninth.
Indoor national team members and recent Pan Am Games gold medalists Kristin Hildebrand and Lauren Paolini will play in their first-ever AVP tournament.
