The city of Kenner, La., held a gathering of politicians on Wednesday at a fantastic sand facility, Coconut Beach, to publicize the first AVP stop of the season, the AVP New Orleans. The event will be conducted on the shores of Lake Pontchartrain April 14-17 and everyone hopes it won’t be a rain-soaked affair like last year. What’s more, last year’s Sunday finals saw most of the participants finish play and then rush off to nearby Louis Armstrong Airport to catch flights to New York, hoping to make their connections to Russia for the next week’s round of play. The AVP had former LSU player Angela Bensend in attendance and we caught up with her, talking about her successes last year, including making the semifinals in New Orleans with partner Geena Urango — they’re know as Team TexMex — and how she got to throw out the first pitch Tuesday night when LSU played Louisiana-Lafayette in college baseball. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSd7WoSE3-M For more on the tournament, click here.
