Colorado State, after having their perfect season crushed bya loss to San Diego State on Friday, rebounded for a 3-0 sweep of UNLV Sunday that celebrated the Ram’s Mountain West Championship and concluded their regular season. A crowd of 4,681 filed into Moby Arena to watch CSU dominate 25-15, 25-9, 25-21 over the Rebels.
Before the match, CSU honored three seniors: Cayla Broadwater, Samantha Peters, and Michelle Smith. Peters, a 6’1″ middle blocker, received Mountain West Player of the Year honors after leading the conference with a .403 hitting percentage. She is also one of only two players in the country to to average at least 1.43 blocks per set and hit above .400.
The all-but-undefeated Rams face a tough first-round opponent in Cal State Northridge tomorrow. CSUN, who earlier in the season defeated the tournament’s 11 seed Hawai’i, will look to add another loss to the Rams’ so-far 28-1 record.
The Rams will play the Matadors in USC’s Galen Center Thursday at 5 p.m. PT.
