This year’s Manhattan Beach 6-Man tournament was held on different days of the weekThursday and Friday instead of Wednesday and Thursdaybut familiar names claimed the championships.

On the men’s side, Team Fletch and a Stack earned its fourth title in 20 years, behind the firepower of Matt Fuerbringer, Casey Patterson, and Mike Lambert. The win is Team Fletch’s first since 2006, though theyve been knocking on the door in recent years (second in 2014, third in 2013, second in 2012).

Pancho’s captured second with a team featuring Pan Am games setter Matt West and formidable outside hitters Robbie Page and Curt Toppel. Last year’s champion Simmzy’s finished third, and Lazerfest rounded out the top four.

On the women’s side, Bacchus/900 Club won its sixth championship in seven years. Bacchus dropped into the loser’s bracket in the second round, but came all the way back to avenge its loss in a double final over Soho Yoga, last year’s champion. Bacchus ball control, experience, and serving kept Soho Yoga out of system for the 15-8, 11-4 win. Former AVP stars Carrie Dodd, Leanne McSorley, Diane Copenhagen, and Lisa Arce guaranteed that their team had skill and chemistry. The win is the inverse of last year, where Soho Yoga came out of the loser’s bracket to beat Bacchus.

Third place was taken by team Long Tall Sallies, and fourth place went to Rock N Brew.
