Americans Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena and Brooke Sweat and Lauren Fendrick capped the 2015 beach volleyball season with podium finishes at the NORCECA Continental Tour Finals in Trinidad and Tobago.
Dalhausser and Lucena recovered from a rocky pool play performance to advance to the gold-medal match where they defeated Canada’s Sam Pedlow and Grant OGorman 18-21, 21-15, 19-17. The victory marked the duo’s third gold medal since partnering up midway through the season. Mexico’s Juan Virgen and Lombardo Ontiveros won the bronze with a victory over Cuba’s Karell Pia and Daisel Quesada.
Fendrick and Sweat went a perfect 4-0 in pool and advanced to the final match where they met Canadians Kristina Valjas and Jamie Broder. Broder and Valjas ultimately took the victory 21-14, 21-17 to claim gold. The silver medal is Fendrick and Sweat’s first podium finish of 2015. Melissa Humana-Paredes and Taylor Pischke of Canada won the bronze-medal match over Cuba’s Lianma Flores Stable and Leila Consuelo Martinez Ortega to round out the podium.
