China vs. US in USA Volleyball Cup
The U.S. Women’s National Team will kick off its 2015 season by hosting China in the USA Volleyball Cup, June 5-11. The U.S., ranked No. 1 in the world, will play No. 3 China twice in the University of Hawaii’s Stan Sheriff Center before returning to its base in Southern California to play two more.
The connections between the two national teams are numerous. The U.S. defeated China in the final of the 2014 FIVB Women’s World Championship, and China’s head coach Jenny Lang Ping served as head coach of the U.S. Women’s National Team from 2005-2008.
US to Host World League Matches
The U.S. Men’s National Team will host Iran, Russia, and Poland in the first round of World League competition in late May and early June. With four matches in Southern California (Iran, May 30-31 in USC’s Galen Center, and Russia, June 5-6 at Long Beach State’s Walter Pyramid) and two against Poland at the Sears Center Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, June 12-13, the U.S. will begin its journey to defend the 2014 World League title.
World League competition stretches across six weeks, and includes trips to Iran, Poland, and Russia for Team USA. If it qualifies, the men’s national team will compete in the final round July 15-19, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The World League matches in the U.S. will be only the second competition of the year for the U.S. Men’s National Team. The U.S. will also host Cuba, Canada, and Mexico for the NORCECA Champions Cup in Detroit, May 21-24, in hopes of qualifying for World Cup in September.
