USA Volleyball welcomed a record-breaking 246 athletes from 106 different colleges to the 2014 open tryouts for the U.S. Women’s National Team and the U.S. Women’s Collegiate National Team at its headquarters in Colorado Springs, Colo., Feb. 21-23.
The tryouts featured mostly athletes from Division I programs but also included a smattering of players who competed, or are still competing, at the DII, DIII, NAIA, and Junior College levels. And this year, for the first time, the tryouts were live streamed for parents, fans, and coaches to support their athletes even if they were unable to make the trip to Colorado.
Two women, Stevi Robinson and Taylor Simpson, were offered the chance to participate in the national team’s winter training block, including playing in the series of Red-Blue scrimmages in March. The winter training block ended March 19, and as of press time, the official roster had not been announced.
The roster for the U.S. Collegiate National Team that will travel with a Pac-12 team to China this summer was made publ. Mark Rosen, head coach at Michigan, and Lauren Steinbrecher, head coach at James Madison, will coach the squad. USAV described the trip as a second tryout for the senior national team.
