Four American beach volleyball duos will compete alongside the best teams from the rest of the world, September 29 – October 4, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, during the Swatch Beach Volleyball FIVB World Tour Finals.

Casey Patterson and Jake Gibb qualified thanks to their strong performance throughout the 2015 international season, and joining them thanks to wild card bids are fellow Americans Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena, Emily Day and Jen Kessy, and April Ross and Lauren Fendrick. The second wild card on the men’s side went to Italians Adrian Carambula and Alex Ranghieri; however, due to visa issues, they had to withdraw and fellow Italians Daniele Lupo and Paolo Nicolai will take their place.

Ten teams per gender will compete in two pools of five. Fendrick and Ross, coming off their recent win at the AVP Huntington Beach Championships, received the overall No. 1 seed on the women’s side. The two women’s regular partners, Brooke Sweat and Kerri Walsh Jennings, are both recovering from shoulder surgery, with Walsh Jennings expected to return to competition next spring and Sweat hoping to be back in time to play a few of the late season tournaments with Fendrick. Gibb and Patterson earned the top seed on the men’s side.

Despite this vote of confidence for the two American teams, the two teams favorited to win the World Tour Finals both hail from Brazil. Larissa Frana and Talita da Rocha Antunes have won the last three tournament they played in and have six titles together in 2015 (10 total as partners). The No. 1 men’s team in the world Bruno Oscar Schmidt and Alison Cerutti took gold in five consecutive international tournaments this season, ending their streak with a fourth at the Rio Open earlier this month.

The Swatch World Tour Finals are free and open to the public, and more than 10 hours of live TV coverage will be broadcast on Universal Sports, October 2-4, with the men’s and women’s final airing live on October 4 on NBC at 2:30 p.m. ET.
