Raquel Ferreira and Vivian Cunha completed a NVL three-peat in Hermosa Beach on August 8. Ferreira and Cunha have earned three victories in four NVL events this year, with crowns at Milwaukee, Mason (Ohio), and Hermosa Beach.
Ferreira and Cunha took the title in a 21-16, 21-15 win over Karolina Sowala and Kim Hildreth; the duo dropped only one set in the tournament, in a 16-21, 21-13, 15-11 semifinal win over Meghan Mannari and Taylor Nyquist.
On the men’s side, Dave Palm and Eric Zaun earned their first-place trophy in a three-game win over Piotr Marciniak and Skylar Delsol, 21-19, 21-23, 15-9. Palm and Zaun, a new partnership, have been steadily improving, earning a fifth place finish in Milwaukee and third place in Mason.
Congratulations to breakout Canadian team Megan and Nicole McNamara, who finished third in Hermosa. The 17-year-old identical twins will join Stein Metzger’s UCLA Bruins for the upcoming beach volleyball season.
The NVL’s next event is in Seattle, August 28-30.
